I don't generally read slash or femslash pairings. This is probably because I like fics that stick close to the characters' canon personalities, and seeing as I read mostly Harry Potter fanfiction, this means to me that slash and femslash are quite unlikely. But I am generally willing to listen to other people's theories on characters (I do ship Dramione, don't I?) *cough* besides Ron *cough*, and so there is no real reason why I shouldn't read them. And besides, Dumbledore's gay anyways. (Although this doesn't really matter, as most of the fics I read seem to be Second Wizarding War Era and forward.)
But what is my aversion to slash and femslash? It's not like I'm a homophobic; I like to think of myself as fairly tolerant (for a Republican). And it's not like all slash/femslash fics are horribly written (although many are).
I think that on the whole, slash fics are worse than femslash. Although, I might be guilty of concurring with Laura's statement that "femslash and slash fics in general should be outlawed." But I think slash might be worse because males are generally supposed to be more "tough" and less likely to open up, which makes the entire situation just doubly more awkward. But then again that makes no sense, as the only gay pairing I ship is slash (Alec/Magnus from The Mortal Instruments). So my new opinion is that I prefer slash, but slash has the potential to be worse than femslash.
So the tally now stands at 3 (Laura, Natalia, and Celine) for femslash and 1 (me) for slash. I think the difference is that my friends are focusing on how gross slash pairings are, especially because they all watch a lot of movies, and I'm focusing on how weird femslash is because I'm female. Furthermore, I think that slash is more bearable because I can't relate to it at all. Or rather, I can. This is confusing. :P
So to make it all up to you, I have found a very good slashfic. :D Twenty Thousand, Eight Hundred Fifty Seven by Spun. Rated T, Alec/Magnus, The Mortal Instruments. AND a pretty damn good (sort of abstract) femslash. Dreamwalking by Blue Yeti. Rated T, Holly/Juliet, Artemis Fowl. :)

lolz. yeah, femslash is way weirder for me than slash... ._. i dunno why. i normally only resort to slash pairings when there are practically no female charys though... but that only happens in shounen manga. ._. *SIGH*
