Books so special...

Favorites on Goodreads
I recently rediscovered this quote, and it's SO TRUE! <3 <3 <3

"Sometimes you read a book so special that you want to carry it around with you for months after you've finished just to stay near it." -- Markus Zusak

There have been literally over one hundred books like this for me over the course of my decade-and-a-half life (*I have 113 books favorites on Goodreads, and that's from the past 3-5 years, only...). As really little kid, I loved (still love) the Dr. Seuss books.

Then, when I started  pre-school around 3-4, I was able to actually read for myself. And so I read The Magic Treehouse series (Remember those? Jack and Annie and traveling into the past to find magical clues? :D). I was really captivated by these books and I think honestly that's what got me so interested in history (me=huge history geek. If you haven't already figured that. But science, too. And READING... And... Yeah. And math. So... Yeah... I guess I'm just a total geek. ._.;; HEH...).

Around first grade, I started really really reading. Like, I eat books. So I started with those books that every kid reads- Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Nancy Drew (I never got into the Hardy Boys; I think that was odd.), the Newbery Award winners, etc. And then I sort of branched out and read those American Diaries or something... Some sort of historical fiction. One of the first books to ever make me cry was one of those about the Titanic. Also, I read Dragon Rider by Cornelia Funke, which was pretty good, especially at the time, and really very memorable.

That kept me occupied until maybe the beginning of third grade. Then, I read books like The Thief Lord and  Inkheart and fell in love with Dustfinger... No, not like that. He was just really epical. HE'S A FIRE EATER!! >:D

Actually, my first book crush was I think... Yeah, I didn't actually lose faith in real boys until fourth grade, when I read all of the Harry Potter books in less than a month... And... Yup. Wow. Actually... I'm pretty damn faithful. I <3 Draco Malfoy. And that was BEFORE I knew he was Tom Felton. XD Hehe. >:D [In fourth grade, I also discovered the Warriors series and the Redwall series.] OH! AND ERAGON!!! AND ARTEMIS FOWL. I WAS OBSESSED WITH ARTEMIS FOWL IN FIFTH AND SIXTH GRADE. I PROBABLY STILL AM. I'M OBSESSED WITH A LOT OF THINGS, IF YOU HAVEN'T NOTICED... HARTEMIS FTW. AND NARNIA. ZOMG. And Song of the Sparrow. Which also made me cry.

Those two three four five carried into fifth grade (and on, and on, and on, and on... DX BRIAN JACQUES, WHY DID YOU HAVE TO DIE????), as well as the Harry Potter series, which I read over and over and still do, and it will always be MY FAVORITE SERIES EVARRR!! I read a whole bunch of other books then, too. Like Tithe by Holly Black. :D And by the way, I totally ignored the swear words in that book and had NO IDEA what the hell the "s-word" was until sixth grade... This is also around the time I got back into historical fiction... I stopped reading it in fourth grade because of all the fantasy series that were taking up my time... D:> Besides The Book Thief (WOOT MARKUS ZUSAK! THAT QUOTE!! XD). The Lord of the Rings!!!! <3 ALEX RIDER!!!!! :D And Evil Genius...

In sixth grade, I discovered the beautiful thing that is realistic fiction. So, like, I read CHICK LIT for the FIRST TIME! *gasp* But I still read a lot lot lot of fantasy books. AND, I read The Borrowers and The Penderwicks... Hehe. :D And Percy Jackson. Of course. So I read about 100 books in sixth grade. And The Hunger Games. Can't forget The Hunger Games. Plus, Wicked Lovely. I don't remember when exactly, but somewhere around sixth grade, I got Pippi Longstocking with these amazing Lauren Child illustrations... :D AND RANGER'S APPRENTICE. Additionally, Hard Love by Ellen Wittlinger, which I have been trying to get my friends to read ever since... The Body of Christopher Creed... For which I have to write that review... RIGHT... North of Beautiful. The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Lots and lots of manga. (Fruits Basket, Bleach, Naruto, and Death Note, mostly.) Beastly and a bunch of other Alex Flinn books. :D (Breathing Underwater. Fade to Black...) A Painted House by John Grisham. Howl's Moving Castle. If You Come Softly and other Jacqueline Woodson books.

In seventh grade, I read about 125 books. My favorites include Shiver (The Wolves of Mercy Falls) which I LOVED. (AND I'M READING HER NEW BOOK, THE SCORPIO RACES. <3), The Demonata series, all of Sarah Dessen's books... Susane Colasanti's books... Skullduggery Pleasant... Most of the books on my favorites shelf on Goodreads are from sixth, seventh, and eighth grade... In seventh grade, I also read all of the John Green books (besides Will Grayson, Will Grayson, which I read in eighth grade.). I might have discovered the Gone series in this year, but it may have been actually sixth. Parrotfish by Ellen Wittlinger and Luna by Julie Anne Peters. And What Happened to Lani Graver by Carol Plum-Ucci, author of The Body of Christopher Creed. AND UNWIND. PURPLE HEART. ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. (And then Cut, Sold, and My Brother's Keeper, too.) A Map of the Known World. Fire and Graceling. The Reformed Vampire Support Group. Nineteen Minutes (and My Sister's Keeper, which I HATED. I'll explain in another post...). Oliver Twist. Just look up all these books. They're awesome.

I read around 150 books in eighth grade. Leviathan, The Skinjacker Trilogy, Chris Crutcher books, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, The Abused Werewolf Rescue Group, Sherlock Holmes, All Quiet on the Western Front, various realistic fiction books, Going Bovine... And a lot more. Also, a bunch of those dark books such as Go Ask Alice. Which was okay. Oh. And Wings!! :D (Aprilynne Pike.)

And finally, this year: The Help, The Pelican Brief, Survival of the Sickest: A Medical Maverick Discovers Why We Need Disease, A Child Called "It", The Watch That Ends The Night: Voices From The Titanic (which was brilliant), Amy & Roger's Epic Detour, all the David Levithan and Rachel Cohn books (DASH & LILY'S BOOK OF DARES!! <3), and lots of realistic fiction and historical fiction and chick lit... XD

ESSENTIALLY: I LOVE AND/OR HAVE LOVED MANY MANY MANY BOOKS, FAR TOO MANY TO EVER RECORD. <3
